Father José Antonio Rubio, chaplain at San José State University and director of ecumenical and interreligious affairs for the Diocese of San José, successfully defended his dissertation entitled “Bishop Eduardo Sánchez Camacho (1838-1920), A Dissenting Voice in the Mexican Church,” on August 16, 2006, at the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley, thereby earning the degree Doctor of Sacred Theology, cum laude. Many supporters from the Newman Center at San José State University, the parish of Sacred Heart of Jesus (where Fr. José has served for many years), and the chancery drove through afternoon traffic and found parking in Berkeley to hear his defense and celebrate with him.
